Haystack (the 6er version) with Pa! 10-20-2018
My dad and I have been making a pretty awesome tradition around his birthday. It’s a simple tradition really. We go to Lake Placid, have some fantastic food and cocktails, and then walk up something in the woods. Frankly, I think it’s one of the better birthday traditions out there.
This year, we did another Saranac 6er, Haystack. This makes Pa’s third of the six, and it was a gorgeous day.
We snuck up the back side of Haystack via the Jackrabbit. It’s an easy walk up to the height of land a few miles in where the herdpath turns of and up on to the ridge.
After the short climb up the ridge, you break out on to the summit ledge, and the views are impressive for such a low intensity hike.
This is a tradition that I think we’ll be keeping going for a good long time. Pa still has McKenzie, Scarface, and Baker for his 6er. McKenzie is going to be a hell of a workout, but the other two will be great walks in the woods!
Until next time!
